Kafue's Wildlife

Kafue is one of the best parks in Africa to see a great diversity of antelopes including roan, sable, hartebeest, eland, impala, puku, oribi, sitatunga, duiker, waterbuck and thousands of red lechwe.

Kafue Predators
|
With such a good antelope food supply, Kafue has the full range of predators. These are leopard, wild dog, cheetah, lion, hyena, civet, genet and jackal.

Best Time to Visit Kafue Region
|
The best time to visit Kafue is June to September when it is warm and dry. It gets very hot in October and November, then rains from November to April, when many camps are closed as the roads are impassable.

Busanga Floodplains
|
The Busanga floodplains are a dominant feature of Kafue, and have been known to recede in the dry season, often trapping hippo in shallow pools. This area is renowned for large prides of lions, open savannah and plains teeming with game.
