Guests on a Lower Zambezi safari at Chongwe River House have a wide variety of tailor made activities to enjoy, from fishing and canoeing to game drives and walking safaris. Children’s activities are also offered.
Children older than 7 years on a Lower Zambezi safari can enjoy a number of fun activities with a child minder that are independent of the parents. There is also a lovely pool for refreshing swims at the house.
Game Drives
Chongwe River House is on the edge of the Lower Zambezi National Park. Game drives set off early in the day and at night, exploring the valley and the varied ecosystems.
Canoeing
This is a great way to view the amazing game along the Zambezi and Chongwe Rivers. These guided excursions also explore the Nkalange Chanel, opposite the Mana Pools World Heritage Site, passing through open flood plains and Mahogany forests. Birdlife is prolific and Elephant often cross the river with the guests looking on.
The Chongwe River does not have hippos and very little current, giving guests an opportunity to relax and drift along. This river is the main source of water in the area and many birds and animals come to drink and feed along the river bank.
Fishing
Guests can test their mettle on the fighting Tiger Fish from a motor boat. The fishing guides offer expert advice on the different techniques used and how to get the best experience whatever the level of skill. A catch and release policy is in operation.
Fly Fishing
After the rainy season in April and May, the Zambezi River and its tributaries are brimming with many types of fish not usually targeted for fly fishing with light tackle such as Red Breasted Tilapia, Kariba Tilapia and Nile Tilapia amongst many others.
