By Road:
In the dry season, a 4x4 vehicle is not essential, but a rugged high clearance vehicle is. In the wet season, a 4x4 vehicle is essential. Take the Mongu Road out of Lusaka and turn right into Mumbwa Town after approximately 150 kilometres (93.2 miles). If coming from the north, turn right at Landless corner and proceed for approximately 120 kilometres (74.6 miles) to Mumbwa. N.B. last fuel is available in Mumbwa. From Mumbwa to McBrides' Camp and back, it is approximately 220 kilometres (136.8 miles).
Once in Mumbwa turn left at the first circle upon entering the town. Turn right after about one kilometre into the Kasempa road. Set your odometer in Mumbwa. At 35 kilometres take the left fork. From now on, if in doubt, take all left forks. At 67 kilometres (41.6 miles) you will reach the Kafue National Park entry gate.
At 89 kilometres (55.3 miles) the main road veers sharp right, but go straight on to McBrides' Camp through the boom gate visible from the main road. After about 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) , turn left at a second boom gate to avoid the old mine, then join the road again after approximately 2 kilometres (1.2 miles) detour and turn left into the road again.
When you get to the airstrip after about a further 2 kilometres (1.2 miles), take the road leading off the east end of the airstrip (the east is where you first hit the airstrip) and there is a sign post saying McBride's Camp then follow the track for about 4km (2.5 miles) to McBrides' Camp on the banks of the Kafue River.
By Air:
The airstrip is at 14.41 South, 26.23 East and is oriented 07 / 25. It is 1 000 metre long with a grass surface at 3 600 metre. The airstrip does not operate in all types of weather, it is generally serviceable between April and December. Please check to be sure.
